Lotus F1 Team separates from Group Lotus

Bought by the Malaysian group DRB-Hicom, Group Lotus, which previously belonged to Proton, is in a complex financial situation. The British brand is represented in most major motorsport disciplines. Lotus F1 Team has nevertheless decided to put an end to the contract which linked it to Group Lotus. Gerard Lopez, the owner of Genii Capital and the English team, reassures fans by specifying on Autosport that the team will keep its name and its black and gold colors.

The president of Genii Capital even specifies that the financial situation of his team could improve by signing a new title sponsor. “We are proud to represent the Lotus name and we believe it is a good thing for F1. We opened the door for a title sponsor by moving from the Lotus name-Renault in Lotus. We signed probably the biggest deal of the year with Unilever and we brought Microsoft to F1, but we still have a lot of space left for a title sponsor. The financial situation of the team will never have been better if we sign such a contract. We don't know yet if we will buy Group Lotus because we really don't know what the new owner wants to do with it. »
