Lotus signs Grosjean and Maldonado

After a few weeks of negotiations, the Lotus F1 Team has just revealed the identity of its 2014 drivers. Romain Grosjean remains and will be joined by Pastor Maldonado, directly from Williams.

Lotus signs Grosjean and Maldonado

We announced it to you at the start of the day, it?s now official: the team based in enstone will make Pastor Maldonado ride well alongside Romain Grosjean for the 2014 season. A very fast driver duo that promises a lot, as Eric Boullier confirms.

“Romain Grosjean truly showed the best of his talent during the second part of the 2013 season and he will be a fantastic asset to our 2014 campaign. He will be joined by Pastor Maldonado, who I have known since he drove for me at DAMS in 2005. It is evident that he demonstrated his speed and potential by winning the GP2 title in 2010 and during his numerous races at Williams, affirmed the Frenchman. I sincerely believe that Lotus F1 Team will be able to cause quite a few surprises next year. »

At 28 years old and after a difficult 2013 season, the Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado, who is supported by PDVSA, will once again have a car capable of fighting for victory in 2014. Remember that he has already won at the wheel of a Williams during the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix after starting from pole position.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to join Lotus F1 Team. It's no secret that I wanted to change direction to give new impetus to my career. The rules and cars will change radically, so now is a good time to start off on the right foot,” concluded the native of Maracay.

The extension of Romain Grosjean's contract was almost obvious since mid-season. Present within the Enstone team since 2012, the Frenchman was delighted to be reappointed.

“I am very happy to have official confirmation that I will continue to drive for Lotus F1 Team next season. The past year has brought me enormous satisfaction. We have done a good job together and I know that everyone at Enstone is very motivated to continue the fight and collect all possible points, confided the Frenchman. I can't wait to get back on the track for pre-season testing. »

A time to support Grosjean, Nico Hulkenberg will now have to find another destination than the Lotus F1 team…
