Lowe: Consumption has always mattered in F1

The new regulation in force this year in F1 will limit the quantity of gasoline on board to 100kg per Grand Prix, i.e. 60kg less than the previous season when V8s were still in the game before the transition to 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6s. Some drivers have expressed their fears about this new rule which could force competitors to slow down more to be able to take the checkered flag.

However, Paddy Lowe believes the fears surrounding the F1 paddock should not be so great. “I think we are overdoing this,” commented the technical director of Mercedes AMG F1 on TotalRace. “It’s obviously something to take into account when racing, but I hope we don’t see it as a deciding factor. We saw several times last year drivers stopped because of this after attacking every lap. It's something very frustrating, but the truth is that tire and fuel management have always mattered in F1. This will obviously be an item in 2014, but I hope it doesn't detract from the show. »
