Magnussen will start from the pit lane after his crash

Guenther Steiner, team principal of the team Haas, confirmed that Kevin Magnussen will start on Sunday from the pit lane of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. The American team will indeed have to change the Dane's chassis, which was seriously damaged following a double contact with the wall during the qualifying session.

Magnussen was completing his last flying lap in Q2 when he hit the famous Wall of Champions at the rear left before spinning and crashing into the opposite wall. Holder of the 10th time at the time of the impact, the Haas driver was theoretically able to access Q3 but the damage suffered naturally prevented him from taking part in the last phase of qualifying.

« We have to change the chassis and will start from the pit lane, confided Steiner on Saturday evening in the Quebec paddock. We need to change the gearbox too. There is no point in starting at the back of the grid with Soft tires.

It's better to change everything and start from the pitlane. This is the safest option. Kevin was just surprised. We know that this type of mishap happens every year in Canada. He was improving his mark but everything went to hell at the last corner ».

The incident was doubly penalizing for the team since Romain Grosjean, who was following his teammate closely, was unable to lower his time because of the red flag waved following the crash. The Frenchman had to stop in Q2 while he was in a fast lap.

Haas or the art of almost permanent self-destruction.
