First man to take to the track in Q3 while rain threatened, the driver Haas defied the predictions on the Interlagos side by setting a first reference time, which would turn into pole position.

In the lead after the first attempts, Magnussen was then helped by the exit of the track by George Russell (Mercedes) which caused a red flag 8 minutes from the checkerboard. The session was interrupted for several minutes then restarted, but no one was able to improve on the former driver's mark. McLaren et Renault since the rain had returned above the Paulista circuit.

With the clock ticking, K-Mag and the entire Haas clan were able to exult in the garage as they became aware of the XXL performance achieved by the Dane and his team this Friday.

« I do not know what to say, said a very emotional Magnussen at the microphone in the post-session interviews.

The team sent me out on track at the best possible time. We were the first out of the pit lane and I did a pretty good lap straight away.

I am now in pole position! It's incredible. Thanks to Gene Haas, Guenther Steiner and the entire team for this opportunity. I spent a year away from F1, I came back and so far the adventure is going very well »

Powered to the front of the grid while his teammate Mick Schumacher brings up the rear, Magnussen promises a “ big attack » in the Sprint Race on Saturday afternoon to hope to score big points during the Grand Prix on Sunday, and why not take a second career podium after Australia 2 with McLaren.

After such a day, all dreams are allowed!
