Falling 49 points behind Max Verstappen in the championship, Charles Leclerc does not intend to give up, even less with 13 Grands Prix to go.

It's a funny time we're living in Charles Leclerc. If he was able to count up to 46 points ahead of Max Verstappen (after his victory at the Australian Grand Prix, April 8-10), the Monegasque is now 49 points behind the reigning world champion. A turnaround in the situation which can be explained by the good dynamics of the Batave and Red Bull but also by the numerous technical problems encountered by Ferrari or even the errors on the side of the Red wall.

Last weekend in Canada, Charles Leclerc had little, if any, hope of closing the gap to Max Verstappen. Something which did not happen since when leaving 19e, the Scuderia protégé is back 5e while his rival signed his 6e victory of the season, bringing his lead to 49 units.

« Everything was going pretty well although it was frustrating at one point because I was in a train of cars with the DRS in front of me, he debriefed on the microphone of Canal + after the finish of the Canadian Grand Prix. There was clearly nothing I could do. I had to remain patient, which I did.

Once I no longer had a car in front of me, I was able to push and it was pretty good. We then waited for the pit stop which ended up being slow and put us behind four cars that had DRS. All the work had to be redone. It was a little frustrating but on closer inspection, 5e was the best position we could do in the race. We take the points and focus on Silverstone where I hope everything goes well and we can fight for the win."

Always 3e in the championship behind the Red Bull duo, Charles Leclerc has reason to be disappointed at the moment when he easily led the championship at the start of the season. But despite this delay, the Monegasque is not prepared to throw in the towel.

« I will believe in it until the end, persists Charles Leclerc. We focus on ourselves. We had problems, we need to resolve them to move on. We had to achieve the best possible result starting from 19e place and I consider that we have done it. You have to concentrate on the next one to take big points."
