Marchionne: “End 2016 in the best way”

The missed departure of Lewis Hamilton did not prevent the Briton from finishing the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in second position behind his teammate and winner Nico Rosberg. A double of Mercedes on Italian soil which was not necessarily to the taste of the management of Ferrari, who hoped for an uptick in the SF16-H on the transalpine route.

The Maranello team had notably spent its last three development tokens available for 2016, by reworking its turbo/hybrid V6, but the developments did not allow the red single-seaters to fight with the W07 Hybrid, Hag however snatching a consolation podium.

“The whole team was ready to win on Sunday, but Mercedes had a perfect race... except for the start which our cars did better, commented Sergio Marchionne, president of Ferrari. It is certain that this result does not satisfy me. But we did the most we could on this circuit. »

If the fight for second place in the Manufacturers' championship faces Red Bull remains the Italian team's primary objective for the end of the season, Sergio Marchionne does not wish to put additional pressure on his troops, who also have to deal with the 2017 project.

“We must now look to finish this season in the best possible way. Let the team work in peace. People are aware of what remains to be improved and must do so with peace of mind. They know the goal to achieve. »
