Marcus Ericsson, 40 years after Ronnie Peterson's victory

In 1974, Ronnie Peterson, then a Lotus driver since 1973, won the famous Monaco Grand Prix at the wheel of his Ford-powered Lotus 72, returned to service during the season after the failure of the 76 version. 40 years after the triumph of the late Swede, who died after the crash in which he was involved during the start of the 1978 Italian Grand Prix, Marcus Ericsson will continue the story of the F1 Swedish woman in the streets of the Principality.

It's also going to be a very special race for all the Swedish fans, explains the young recruit from the Caterham team. It is a huge honor for me to be a Swedish F1 driver following in his footsteps, especially since like him, and I come from the same part of Sweden. Even though I know we won't be in contention for a win like him, I want to do the best job possible to honor him. I've obviously been asked about what Senna has meant to me over the last few weeks, but I always say it's Ronnie who really inspired me, obviously not because I saw his races, but because that where I come from in Sweden, in Kumla, Ronnie is the hero. We have a number of really cool things planned to celebrate his memory during the week and I'm sure it's going to be emotional for the people who are in the paddock today and remembering him.

Ericsson will not be a novice on the streets of Monaco, since the Swede had already set his wheels there in GP2, and was on the podium in 2012. It remains to be seen what the level of performance of a CT 05 will be, well below the expectations of Tony Fernandes' team, and which already seems to be left behind by the Marussia MR03s. If Ericsson did not participate in the Barcelona tests, his teammate Kamui Kobayashi believes that the sessions in Catalonia made it possible to define new avenues of adjustment for the car equipped with V6 turbo / hybrid Renault.
