Mark Webber, luck on the bright side

Is this the year of Mark Webber? Leader of the World Championship, the Australian has already won four Grands Prix and seems to be protected by a lucky star. If he obtained his victories by the strength of the wrist, the pilot Red Bull also enjoyed some success. Already in Türkiye, violently hit by Sebastian Vettel, he was able to continue his race. This Sunday, in Singapore, hanging with Lewis Hamilton, the Australian saw his rival give up, while heading towards the podium.

« He was very, very lucky », Explains Hirohide Hamashima, director of the Bridgestone competition department, to autosport.com. Indeed, the Australian?s right front tire having been hit, he was close to going crazy. The tire sank into the rim but, fortunately for him, not enough. “ Within five millimeters, the tire would have slipped and it could have lost all its pressure », continues Hamashima.

Mark Webber therefore escaped the worst, thanks to his tough tire but also to the characteristics of the circuit. “ Mark was lucky with the track because if there had been high speed corners the tire would have moved more and it would have been over for him. Otherwise, I have already seen tires hold like that for a few laps but 25 laps is incredible! »
