Mark Webber, the victory of panache

Having started from pole, Mark Webber was best placed to take victory at the Nürburgring. But the first seconds of the race did not make this mission easy for him. 14 kg lighter, Rubens Barrichello returned to the Asutralien and was hit from the side by the latter. A few laps later, Mark Webber received a penalty in the form of a pit stop to sanction the maneuver on the Brazilian. If the driver is appreciated in the paddock, the penalty condemns a change of line before the first turn, which the Australian regrets after the race: “ It's not my style. I thought he would be more to the left, so I went a little to the right and touched him. »

But, faster than all his rivals, the No. 14 was able to attack throughout the race, passing Barrichello again as usual, the Brawn getting tangled up in a curious three-stop strategy. “ It?s a great day for me, it?s fabulous » blurted, moved, Mark Webber. The latter admits that he thought the race would be more disrupted by the weather conditions. “ We were expecting rain, which did not come. »

After 132 Grands Prix and for its eighth season in Formula 1, Mark Webber can finally celebrate a success, even though he was seriously injured following a cycling accident last December. “ This winter, I maintained hope and motivation to overcome this injury. It's a fabulous day for all my Australian friends who have supported me. » Now back in the circle of Formula 1 Grand Prix winners, Mark Webber will be able to celebrate his success with his friends. But, also, to concentrate on a season which sees him occupy third place in the world championship.
