Mark Webber did not tremble

Mark Webber had the perfect race in Barcelona. Starting from pole, the Australian protected and kept his position in the first corner, before escaping. An uneventful race for the driver Red Bull, undisputed winner.

« We knew we were well placed to win this race, says the Australian. It was difficult at the start with the long straight and the top speed which did not favor us. It was very tight. We had Lewis (Hamilton) and Fernando (Alonso) by our side. But we (the Red Bull drivers) managed to stay in front, and then I got into a rhythm to start this race, coming out in front of the first corner. I then set about maintaining my pace, being consistent in my laps. »

Mark Webber quickly escaped, distancing himself from Sebastian Vettel in order to make a perfect pit stop to change tires. These were also at the center of all concerns in Barcelona. “ We monitored the tires to see how they would evolve. We made a very clean pit stop, then we controlled the gap. In the last minutes, we had to pay attention to the car, not make mistakes and watch the tires, the race is long and we have to bring the cars back to the finish. »

Satisfied with this victory, Mark Webber knows that he owes it to his driving but also and above all to all the people who work in the shadows. “ Collectively, everyone has done a huge job at Red Bull. The mechanics worked long hours, every night. This is a fantastic result. Everyone took part, including the drivers, and I'm really delighted. It is a reward for everyone, for Renault, for us. For Bridgestone too, because it?s essential to have tires that work. »
