Mark Webber: “We remain optimistic”

Mark Webber, at home in Australia, is hoping to make up for his Bahrain Grand Prix performance. If the pilot Red Bull scored four points, he was slower than his teammate during the day on Saturday. “ Qualifying was very disappointing but it?s all my fault », confirms the Australian, who only set the sixth fastest time in qualifying, more than a second behind Sebastian Vettel.

Having a bad start on Sunday, Mark Webber lost a position by finding himself behind the Mercedes de Michael Schumacher, without being able to double it afterwards. “ The race was not very exciting because it was very difficult for everyone to follow the car in front of them., confirms Webber. This kind of circuit, especially with full tanks, did not help anything in this area. »

Seventh for a long time, Mark Webber was unable to catch up with the seven-time World Champion and even fell back later. “ I spent the first third of the race behind Michael. He wasn?t really fast, so I tried to overtake him but it didn?t really work and I even lost my place to Jenson (Button, McLaren) during pit stops. »

« I just followed Jenson, who was following Michael himself, but there wasn't much to do., continues Webber. So it was a very frustrating race in traffic. But hey, that's racing, that's how it is when no one makes a mistake. »

Added to Sebastian Vettel's fourth place, even though he had led two thirds of the race, the Bahrain weekend at Red Bull therefore turned out to be quite negative. But Mark Webber remains confident. “ This result is indeed very disappointing but we remain optimistic. We have a lot of work ahead of us. »
