Mark Webber fears his future departure from F1

Since the retirement of Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber has regained the position of dean of the set of the F1. Aged 36, the Australian has “only” played 11 seasons, including six with Red Bull Racing, but the rejuvenation of the average age of the competitors is enough to put pressure on him and make him doubt his starting place. With a contract renewed for a single year with the Austrian team, the second driver of the Milton Keynes team is not evading the question but intends to defend his chances despite a teammate in full success with three consecutive titles and the honorary coronation of youngest triple F1 world champion at just 25 years old.

“Timing is very important.”, recognized Mark Webber in GP International magazine. “I haven’t gotten to that point yet but it’s going to be a really, really difficult time, there’s no doubt about that. I guess it's just a matter of leaving at the right time... not hanging up too early knowing you still have potential, or staying too long and not being fast enough, or struggling to do things you need to do. we were used to it. This could also become a problem. The fact is that I have acquired wisdom but the finesse of piloting could be lost. You never stop learning, so the 22-year-old Mark Webber would be nowhere in terms of wisdom, but I have a lot of it now... However, there comes a time when that is no longer enough to stay at the forefront. And that’s when you have to stop. »
