Marko: Red Bull could consider leaving

While Red Bull had created a surprise by achieving promising performances at the Australian GP last year after catastrophic winter tests, the opposite situation seems to be playing out this season. Despite the low number of cars arriving, Daniel Ricciardo was only able to get sixth place, Carlos Sainz Jr places his Toro Rosso in ninth place.

The two Taureau Rouge teams were affected by a lack of reliability, with a gearbox problem for Daniil Kvyat and a mechanical problem for Max Verstappen, and suffered in the middle of the pack against more efficient competition.

Si Renault Sport F1 has taken its responsibilities, the domination of Mercedes annoys Red Bull to the highest degree as confirmed in particular on Sky Sports Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull advisor and head of the Junior Team sector, in the Melbourne paddock. “We will reassess the situation (this summer) as we do every year by analyzing costs and revenues. We might consider leaving the F1 if we are not satisfied. The danger is that Mr Mateschitz (Red Bull boss) will lose his passion for F1. »

Dr. Helmut Marko suggests that it is the regulation which is the cause of this disappointment. “These Power Units are a bad solution for F1 and we would continue to say that even if Renault was the leader. An engineer like Adrian Newey is castrated by this engine. These rules kill discipline."
