Maria de Villota underwent further surgery earlier today at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. It was a planned procedure, and one that depended on the continued stability of the Spaniard's head injuries. This morning, the medical team was satisfied enough to allow the operation to proceed.
Surgeons have successfully completed the next phase of operations needed to treat Maria de Villota's facial injuries. After the lengthy initial procedure, which began on Tuesday and ended on Wednesday, today's operation took much less time.
Since today's operation, Maria de Villota's condition following the head trauma she suffered has further improved. Still in a serious but stable condition, the Spaniard is responding well to the treatment she has received since the accident.
