Felipe Massa set the best time of the morning at the wheel of the Williams FW40 with which he completed a lap in 1’19”726, or 21 thousandths more than last week’s reference set by Valtteri Bottas on Mercedes W08. The Brazilian used the supersoft tires to set his own benchmark.
Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) was also on the pace since he placed less than two tenths behind the Williams with the RB13, but the Australian used the ultra-soft tires to set his best lap. With 49 laps covered, he achieved the same distance as Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who completed the top three of the morning before giving way to his teammate Valtteri Bottas.
Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was the most diligent on the track with 80 laps completed. The SF70H driver set the 4th fastest time on the medium tires and beat the Force India VJM10 byEsteban Ocon and Haas VF17 of Kevin Magnussen.
Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) preceded the McLaren by Kevin Magnussen. The MCL32 still seems to have had mechanical problems which could limit its running this Tuesday March 7.
Pascal Wehrlein was able to complete his first laps at the wheel of the Sauber C36, after being replaced last week by Antonio Giovinazzi. The 2015 champion of DTM preceded the Renault of Jolyon Palmer who suffered from a sensor problem.
