Massa operated on, Gené stands ready

Ferrari, after the accident of Felipe Massa, passed a detailed inspection of the car by Felipe Massa. And we know more about the exact circumstances of the Brazilian's exit from the track. Rubens Barrichello, at the end of the Q2 session, during the qualifying session, lost a spring from the rear suspension of his car. This piece then continued its race on the track and was lifted by another Brawn GP car, that of Jenson Button. Upon arriving on the scene, Felipe Massa was the victim of this wandering piece. She hit the nose of her car, the members of the Ferrari team having spotted the trace of the impact, before then hitting her helmet.

Felipe Massa, after having undergone surgery (see elsewhere), remains under observation at Budapest hospital. If he is in a stable condition, the Ferrari team cannot yet comment on the vision of its driver. But this point worries the team, which does not know if the Brazilian will regain full possession of his visual means. As a result, Ferrari asked Marc Gené to be ready. The Spaniard, Scuderia reserve driver, could replace Felipe Massa if he cannot return to racing at the next Grand Prix in Valencia.
