With 21 points scored in the last five races, Rubens Barrichello has managed to get closer to his teammate Jenson Button, leader of the Drivers' World Championship. Back 16 points behind the Briton, the veteran of the field could come and play spoilsport until the end and prevent his teammate from being crowned on the evening of the Abu Dhabi GP. At least that is what Felipe Massa, who supports his compatriot, wishes.
« Rubens has five races to close the 16-point gap between him and [de Button],” says Massa in the Guardian. “ There are big possibilities and it depends on Jenson. If Jenson continues on this bad path, it will make things easier for Rubens. »
Since his last victory in Turkey in June, Jenson Button has had a series of poor performances to score only 11 points in the following five races. Enough to give hope to his adversaries. “ I think Jenson dropped his pace because of the pressure », continues Massa. “ This is the only explanation. If he can't get rid of this pressure, he won't win the championship. »
« I know Jenson but not very well. I hope [obviously] for Rubens. He is Brazilian ? and he's my friend », concluded Massa.
