Despite the 6 place penalty which took him from 4e position at 10e, Pierre Gasly had reason to anticipate a good Sunday. Her Alpine showing a good pace, the Norman could hope to move up the hierarchy and why not aim for a Top 5 in which he was initially supposed to be.

But things don't always go as planned and sometimes it's even worse. Author of an average start, one of his points to improve, the pilot Alpine tumbled down the rankings, completing the first lap of the race at 15e place this Sunday. From then on, the reassembled operation took a completely different turn for the Habs who saw the points move away over the course of the Grand Prix.

« I try to take the rope in the first turn but I end up on the outside in the second, he explains when debriefing the action at the microphone of Canal +. We are three deep with a car on the inside of Pérez, Pérez in the middle and me on the outside. I knew I was going to get pushed if I robbed. I tried to give them space unfortunately I put a wheel on the gravel at turn 3 and I lost 4 positions. It hurts. Qualify 4e, have to leave 10e after the penalties to find yourself 14e at the first turn… This is clearly not the best posture to start the race.

We then quickly find ourselves 10-15 seconds behind the leading peloton and it is therefore difficult to get back up. We tried to do what we could. We manage to seek a point by finishing 10e but it is obvious that we had to go and fight with the Aston Martin who finish less than 10 seconds from us. There is a taste of unfinished business on this Grand Prix."

Anything positive to remember?

Although he lost big at the start, Pierre Gasly made up for it by recovering the last point at stake, thanks to the penalty of Yuki tsunoda which allowed him to finish 10e. Not enough to make him smile even if he is aware that there are positives to take away from this Catalan stay.

« Saturday's very good qualification, he advances. We showed that we were fast. Today (Sunday), when I was all alone on the track without traffic I managed to perform well. We will analyze the race but we did not have the pace of the Top 5 but there was the possibility of aiming Stroll (6e). We made mistakes yesterday (SATURDAY) which cost us dearly. We find ourselves in the middle of the peloton from the first turn and behind it it's a bit of a “snowball effect” but we continue to work. We know that there is more performance to be had. There is something positive to be learned. » Shows that not everything has to be thrown away after all.

Oh my, well it’s just a crappy weekend like any other!

It just goes to show that in F1, the weekends follow one another but are not always the same, at least for Alpine as well as Aston Martin!
