Max Chilton will become Marussia reserve driver from Suzuka

Max Chilton prepares to conclude his third season in the GP2 Series this weekend in Singapore. Integrated into Marussia's young driver program, the Briton won a victory in Hungary and is currently in fifth place in the Championship. The Briton will have the privilege of occupying the position of reserve driver for Marussia F1 Team from the Japanese Grand Prix until the end of the season. The Carlin driver already has experience at the highest level of the car since he took part in the rookie tests last year with Force India and this season with the Russian team. He will fill the position of Maria de Villota, the former test driver for the Russian team seriously injured during a testing accident.

“My experience at Silverstone for the rookie tests was a good taste of how F1 works and I am delighted to extend the experience to work as a reserve driver for the remainder of this year’s F1 events.”, comments the future promotion of Marussia F1 Team. “I feel that my driving has matured this season and I will be able to combine it within an engineering activity of an F1 team. The level of preparation required for an F1 driver puts my career on another level. » Team Principal John Booth is looking forward to continuing the development of Max Chilton to prepare him in the best possible way for a possible entry into competition. “He seems to become more mature with each date. We were all delighted to see how he confirmed his pole victory in Hungary. An important part of the education of every young driver looking to progress to the highest level is being able to spend time with the engineers and more experienced drivers, this is an important part of our program. Max will see himself fully prepared for the level of competitiveness that the MR01 demands in his role as a new reserve driver. We can’t wait to have him on board. »
