Max Verstappen: “I’m not here to make up the numbers”

Entering the top 5 for the first time this year in China, Max Verstappen had, however, made a name for himself by hanging the Ferrari de Sebastian Vettel braking at the hairpin on the Shanghai route. A new incident to be attributed to the young Dutchman who recognizes having to add an essential parameter to his always offensive style.

“You learn on your own and that doesn’t mean you have to drive slower, it means you have to drive faster. But maybe with a little control. » admits Jos Verstappen’s son on the sidelines of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and quoted by Reuters.

However, there is no question of changing his approach for the pilot Red Bull Racing, renowned for its incessant attack, and its predispositions on wet tracks. “Slowing down, just to do nothing and ride, I'm not like that, I'm not here to make up the numbers » insists the former FIA resident F3.

Verstappen appears largely dominated by his teammate Daniel Ricciardo on an accounting level since the start of the season. If the Australian has pinned the Chinese Grand Prix to his prize list and is in fourth place in the Drivers' championship, with double the points of Verstappen.
