Max Verstappen is back in Formula 1 for this weekend after a trip to the Nordschleife for the NLS2 in preparation for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Starting from pole position, the Dutchman dominated the track alongside his teammates Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella, but the Mercedes Benz-AMG No. 3 was disqualified for using one more set of tires than the permitted limit for the day (seven instead of six).
« We made a small mistake in qualifying during pit stop practice: we added an extra set of tires during the pit stops. explained the pilot Red Bull to the press present at Suzuka. But in the race, it's simple, because everyone uses four sets of new tires. It's a shame to lose the victory, but at the same time, it probably allows the team to fine-tune things; perhaps they needed to. »
Despite this final setback, Max Verstappen retains a positive feeling about his German adventure. Overall, the experience was positive. The team and engineers know what they're doing; they've been successful in GT racing for some time now. For me, it was a really fun weekend. Every time I got out of the car, I was smiling, and I think that's always a good sign. "The Dutchman also confirmed that he could take advantage of the Formula 1 calendar change planned for April to possibly participate in other NLS events in order to best prepare for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
Is Max Verstappen interested in Super GT?
Clearly a jack-of-all-trades, Max Verstappen also caused a stir on Wednesday at Fuji where he was spotted driving a Nissan Z NISMO GT500. "It was great fun," he said. "It's a shame it rained so much; I couldn't do many laps. I would have liked to do more. It's a fantastic car, and the category in general is incredible. It was a great experience driving this car and feeling a different kind of grip in the rain than what we're used to in Europe. And being able to drive so many different cars is always a good thing." »

Regarding a future entry in Super GT, Verstappen replied that entering the Japanese championship without a flagship race was not on the agenda and that competing in a single race " is not necessarily the best option Perhaps he will take inspiration from Jenson Button? The Briton became Super GT champion in 2018, nine years after his F1 title.

You're right Max, and it's more fun to drive this kind of car than an F1. Plus, a GT race lasts longer... and is very often an adrenaline rush to come!

A grin in GT racing that he doesn't show when getting out of the Red Bull 2026 cockpit... a bit like during the first part of the 2025 season before a comeback that almost paid off in Abu Dhabi
