The pilot of Red Bull Racing received a five-second penalty for crossing the white line at the pit exit on the Miami circuit.
The incident occurred after an early pit stop under the safety car at the start of the race. Upon rejoining the track, Verstappen encroached on the line separating the pit lane from the track, a maneuver strictly prohibited by the regulations.
At the time of the incident, the available footage did not allow for a clear conclusion. The stewards therefore chose to open an investigation after the race to analyze new video footage.
These additional images confirmed the infraction: part of the front left tire crossed the continuous white line, in violation of the International Sporting Code.
In their report, the officials state: The new images clearly showed that the front left tire crossed the pit lane exit line, constituting an infringement. »
The five-second penalty was initially intended to drop Verstappen from fifth to sixth place, behind Charles LeclercHowever, the pilot of Team Ferrari itself received a heavier penalty after the race, dropping him to eighth place, which limited the consequences for the Dutchman in the final standings.

Do they ever put themselves in the drivers' shoes? Don't they know that when you're driving an F1 car, everything happens VERY, VERY FAST? Even though I don't like Verstappen, these guys are going too far.

The penalty is harsh but fair… for Max, who doesn't lose much! For Charles, it's worse; he loses a lot, and to think that with two laps to go… he was on the podium… Regrettable! 🧐 alainkf1@pt.lu 😎👀

A zero-sum game of penalties for Verstappen, who benefits from Leclerc's mistake! That said, visibility of the separation line from the cockpit must be quite poor...
