McLaren: Button happy with his strategy, Pérez mixed

In qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix, Jenson Button finished 8th while his teammate McLaren, Sergio Pérez, failed to enter Q3 and was content with a 12th place. If the first appears satisfied, the second does not hide his frustration. “Our goal was to be first on the grid with Medium tires? even if it meant qualifying 10th? and we did it », comments Jenson Button. “It was the best we could do with what we had. Despite everything, I think we must be very happy with our performance in qualifying because we didn't really have the pace of the cars at the front yet. All the guys in front are going to start with degraded Soft tires, and I think we're going to see as much graining as on Friday, so it's going to be an extremely interesting race.

For Sergio Pérez, “it’s been a tough weekend so far”. “Should I have been in Q3 today? but I didn't manage to find enough time in Q2. It was frustrating, the lap to warm up my tires before my fast lap was not ideal, I struggled. Tomorrow is going to be a tough race, a lot will depend on the strategy”, the Mexican expects. “I have a good team behind me and I know they will do a fantastic job to give me the best tactics possible for the race on Sunday. We can really do a good job and score valuable points.”
