McLaren like the good old days

The Hamilton-Verstappen clash should not overshadow the formidable McLaren double. Thanks to a rediscovered Daniel Ricciardo and an altruistic Lando Norris, Woking returns to victory nine years after its last success. A popular and deserved triumph.

McLaren like the good old days

He promised an offensive race, he kept his word. Three years since Daniel Ricciardo had never started from the front row of a Grand Prix. It was in Mexico in 2018. That day, the Australian occupied pole position ahead of his teammate Red Bull then, Max Verstappen. At the start, the Dutchman got the better of the man from Perth, then fled. Positions and scenario reversed at Monza with the championship leader in the lead and the driver McLaren by his side. Just before the lights went out, Ricciardo tried to ignore the poor start made by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) lors du Sprint depuis la même position de grille. Son envol avec des pneus Médiums fut solide, moins probant que celui effectué la veille en Tendres, lequel lui avait permis de passer de la 5e à la 3e place au premier freinage, mais suffisant pour déborder la Red Bull en pointe. Et virer en tête d’un Grand Prix, une première pour lui depuis Abou Dhabi en 2018. C’était alors sa dernière course chez Red Bu
