McLaren challenges Ferrari

After showing a gloomy face at the start of the year, McLaren managed to raise the bar at the start of the second half of the season. Winner of two GPs in Hungary and Singapore with Lewis Hamilton, the Woking team even managed to catch up with Ferrari in the Constructors' championship. If the first two positions remain inaccessible, the third seems playable, especially since Martin Whitmarsh's men are only two units behind the firm of Maranello.

With still 36 points to take, the battle for runners-up should be fought out to the end. “ Of course we want to win the championship but that is not possible this season. Beating Ferrari, which is our long-time rival, is very important for the prestige and honor of our engineers. They have beaten us in the last two years in the Manufacturers' standings, so it is important for us to be able to beat them this year?, said Paddy Lowe, McLaren?s engineering director.

The British team can, however, be confident about its chances of overtaking its Italian rival. In fact, the Maranello firm has decided to stop the development of its car well before that of the MP4-24. “ It's doable “, continues Lowe. “ We have two points less at the moment. We have a slight advantage because Ferrari had difficulties with the car occupied by Fisichella. If we can score points with both drivers, that will make the difference. »
