McLaren moved a little further away from Renault this weekend in Sochi (Russia). The English team, not satisfied with not renew the association with the French engine manufacturer beyond 2020, took the lead in the fight for fourth place in the Manufacturers' championship.
On the shores of the Black Sea, McLaren collected 12 points, while the Losange recorded only a small unit. Enough to increase the lead to 33 points to the detriment of Renault.
Smooth operation and back to where we deserve! Solid P6. Felt nice to fight both Mercs at the start and both Red Bulls later, but we lacked a bit of pace to hold them off. Happy with best of the rest again though. Great job everyone. Another double points finish for the team pic.twitter.com/PsPsmGeRgu

“These 12 points are crucial in our fight to secure fourth position, confirms McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl. Carlos (Sainz Jr) and Lando (Norris) did an exceptional job, with excellent starts. » The Spaniard even passed a few kilometers in front Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes)!
“Free practice on Friday was complicated for us, but with the help of the factory, the team reversed the trend this Sunday. It is the first time we have exceeded the 100 points mark in a season since 2014. »
Enthusiastic, Carlos Sainz Jr (6th) fulfilled his objective. “ It was great to fight with the Mercedes in the second corner. Then I was able to control my race and I led a good pace until the end, even if it was impossible to hold both Red Bull. »
