Jenson Button had started this first day of testing in Barcelona with a bang. After 21 encouraging laps, the 2009 world champion nevertheless had to dismount, following the discovery of a problem on the MGU-K causing another problem requiring the complete replacement of the Honda V6 turbo / hybrid Power Unit.

“The time it took to complete this operation ended our day, says Yasuhisa Arai, Honda Motorsport Manager. We are going to need a revised replacement part to prevent this problem from repeating itself. Unfortunately, we won't have this part available until Saturday, which means we could face the same problem again. »

McLaren modified its program, since Fernando Alonso, which was initially scheduled to start on Saturday, will finally line up at the wheel of the MP4-30 tomorrow in Catalonia with the possibility of another complicated day for the men from Woking.
