McLaren between satisfaction and realism

With Jenson Button 10th and Fernando Alonso 12e, McLaren punctuated its first day on the Shanghai track in China in an encouraging manner. Honda-powered MP4-30 drivers noted improvements in their car but want to remain cautious.

“All the changes made here seem to be working as intended, notes the Spaniard. And that allowed us to get closer to the middle of the pack. It’s encouraging to see that we are really moving in the right direction. Even if it was good to evolve in the peloton, we must keep our feet on the ground : we saw in the first two races that the others often took a step forward in qualifying. »

Same vision of the situation for the Briton Jenson Button. “We were doing relatively well, but that can be explained by the fact that we were able to extract the full potential from the car when others may not have been able to. Without looking at the positions, the sensations with the car are good. »

The third free practice session and qualifying will be held tomorrow on the Shanghai track.
