McLaren and Honda expect tough weekend at Silverstone

As he approaches his home event at Silverstone, McLaren does not present himself in the position desired by the Woking management. Since the start of the championship, alone Fernando Alonso was able to score points in Azerbaijan and the MCL32, powered by the Honda unit, remains behind in terms of performance compared to its rivals.

And as Yusuke Hasegawa, project manager, admits F1 of Honda, the British track could put the cars of Alonso and his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne to the test. « The track layout, with its long straights and high-speed corners, puts all parts of the car to the test, including the Power Unit, specifies the Nippon.

It's long and hard, and very demanding in terms of fuel and power, so I expect it will be difficult for us. And of course we'll have the notoriously unpredictable British weather to contend with. »

Honda maintains hope

Yusuke Hasegawa, however, hopes to see continuity from the Austrian Grand Prix, where Honda brought a new specification of its turbo/hybrid V6. « The result in Austria was not what we had hoped or expected, but we showed definite progress, continues the Japanese.

Hopefully I can continue to build on that this weekend. We are as motivated as ever and working to move forward as quickly as possible. »
