McLaren-Honda and Alonso still focused on reliability

After his American interlude to complete his rookie program in Indianapolis, Fernando Alonso will return to the seat of his MCL32 this weekend in Catalonia for the Spanish Grand Prix.

The duo McLaren- Honda remains prey to recurring reliability concerns since the start of the season, in particular on the hybrid system of the Japanese Power Unit which had prevented Alonso from starting the Russian Grand Prix, ERS at half-mast.

A search for reliability which also contrasts with the work of other teams which focus their resources on performance with major developments expected in Spain.

“After a tough series of races for us, I'm not sure what we can expect from this weekend, comments Alonso. We are waiting for several new parts, which we bring to each race, but we can't really focus on performance until we solve our reliability problems. This is always our goal. »

Four years without victories

As recently recalled in a video posted on the F1 Facebook page, Fernando Alonso has not experienced the joys of victory since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

The Spanish pilot was then playing on behalf of the Team Ferrari and fought for the world title with the Red Bull de Sebastian Vettel. A situation far from the current one at McLaren.

The double world champion, however, hopes to be able to put in a good performance in front of his home crowd this weekend. “I'm really excited to return to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, rejoices Alonso.

It's my home race, I've had some good times there, and the atmosphere is always crazy. We spend a lot of time there during pre-season testing, but nothing compares to the emotion of racing in front of your fans at home. It's a very special feeling...

I know the team is working very hard to overcome our recent issues, and I hope we can have an easier race and a weekend with very few problems. »
