McLaren focuses on reliability in Canada

It seems far away the time when McLaren chained successes on the Gilles Villeneuve track in Montreal, notably the series between 2010 and 2012 with three consecutive victories for Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. 2016 should not, logically, allow McLaren to improve its record of triumphs on Canadian soil (13), but as Jenson Button indicates, Ron Dennis' team should not fear this meeting.

“Although it is one of the fastest circuits on the calendar, and very demanding in terms of power, one of the strong points of our chassis is the stability under hard braking, so we shouldn't be afraid to show up at a circuit like this and be defensive, underlines the 2009 world champion.

Our development is still ongoing and there is a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes to constantly improve the performance of our package, so I'm excited to see how we perform in Canada, given the differences in features of this circuit compared to Monaco. »

To Fernando Alonso, the key element should be reliability, a parameter where McLaren has made significant progress compared to the 2015 season. “Canada is a very demanding route and requires absolute concentration at all times, recalls the Spaniard. You go from slow corners to high speed sections very quickly, which means a lot of pressure on the brakes and Power Units.

This track is demanding for cars, so reliability will be the first thing to focus on, to ensure that there are no technical problems that could compromise our performance. »

The 2015 edition of the Canadian Grand Prix was more than complicated for the British clan with a double retirement for the two cars of Alonso and Button.
