McLaren unlocks the secrets of the RB7

Phil Prew, the chief engineer of McLaren, believes that the significant advantage of Red Bull in qualifying comes from specific engine mapping making the rear diffuser more efficient.

« We are looking to improve the performance of our cars in qualifying and racing », recalls Phil Prew. “ I think that tire optimization can be a solution, as can the development of specific engine maps, generating optimized aerodynamic downforce with the exhausts. »

Phil Prew thinks the gap between the RB7 and the MP4 26 is not as big as it seems. “ I think we are three to five tenths behind the pace of the Red Bulls and that is a gap that we want to close at all costs. »
