McLaren is working on its aerodynamics

The objective will be twofold in Great Britain: place the two drivers in Q3 and fight for “big points”. Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of McLaren, indicates that the Woking team is currently working hard to slowly, but surely, return to the forefront. To do this, the British firm traveled this Tuesday to Spain, to Idiada, to carry out straight-line aerodynamic tests.

On the one hand, this allowed the team to test several parts to know which ones to bring to Silverstone this weekend for their home race, on the other hand we made progress on the overall understanding of the car. “The only problem with our cars is our lack of downforce and that's what we're trying to create now. We have several developments for this weekend but we are not just testing parts, we are working on the fundamental understanding of the car”, explained Neale on Tuesday, who refused to say whether these tests had proven productive or not. “We'll wait until Friday afternoon at Silverstone to see what's left on the car on Saturday to see if it worked, but we won't know until then. (Tuesday) evening what package we are going to take (for the British Grand Prix, Editor’s note).”

McLaren is currently going through one of the most complicated seasons of its career. At the last Grand Prix, in Canada, neither Jenson Button nor Sergio Pérez were able to score a point. Which has not happened since 64 Grand Prix. “It would be great if the guys could get a podium” at Silverstone, hopes Jonathan Neale. “But I think, given recent performances, it will be a very tough challenge”. Answers this weekend.
