McLaren will take its time for 2017

The extension of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button within McLaren-Honda for 2017 remains pending. If the double world champion has a contract for next year, the Briton's contract ends at the end of the season while Stoffel Vandoorne waits in the hope of becoming a starter.

Ron Dennis, the executive director of McLaren, announced on Sky Sports that the British team will not make a decision for several months.

“We will not discuss driver discussions until Monza (the Italian GP will be held on September 4), confided the Briton. We will have a management meeting at the end of September, which is an opportune time to make a decision, but it is still possible that we will not make one at that time. »

“We will not slow down a driver’s career. We have a promising young driver at the moment, two fantastic world champions, and we have to take all of that into consideration. But we're barely halfway through the season. Starting to talk about decisions that would impact next year would be the most inappropriate thing to do right now. It's just too early.", insisted Ron Dennis.
