McLaren wants to take the lead in Barcelona

The three-week break between the Chinese Grand Prix and the return to Europe allowed engineers to make numerous changes to the silver arrows. The modifications made concern both the flat bottom and the aerodynamic appendages. These developments would allow McLaren, according to MP4-25 designer Tim Goss, to gain valuable places during qualifying. These are more essential than ever with the new regulations prohibiting refueling, therefore reducing the number of pit stops and thus the opportunities to gain positions.

“I would like to think we can put a car in the lead for the start in Barcelona. We know that we have taken a real step forward, but we also know that Red Bull, Ferrari et Mercedes have announced important developments? » confirmed Goss.
“We have certainly closed the gap. In China, before Lewis made a mistake in qualifying following a windstorm, we proved that we had reduced the gap. We were probably two or three tenths off the pace of the Red Bulls. »

All that remains is for the pilots to confirm. Even though McLaren is at the top of the drivers' and constructors' standings, the best result so far in qualifying is a fourth place.Hamilton in Bahrain. This is undoubtedly a significant number of points that McLaren is letting slip following its poor results in qualifying and which would allow it to increase its gap over its pursuers.
