Threatened with exclusion, Grosjean questions the points license

Found guilty of hooking Charles Leclerc in the first lap of the United States Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean received a 10th penalty point in the last 12 months. If the pilot Haas will collect one the day after the race in Mexico, the threat of expulsion remains very much present.

Grosjean readily admits his faults in the incident with his Sauber colleague but he admits to being skeptical about the sanction received.

« I apologized, it was my fault, that's clear, declared the Frenchman from Mexico. Afterwards, is there a need for a penalty for that? Yes, it's an error but not an attack and we are on the first lap of the race. At one point, we're there to race, we're there to fight. Sometimes it's complete carnage but other times we're at the limit and we make mistakes ».

Asked if he and his teammate, stinging him Kevin Magnussen, suffered from a bad reputation with the race stewards, Grosjean added: “ I don't want to get into conspiracy stories or whatever. We do our best. Now, if I look back at all the penalties I've had, some are totally deserved, others make me smile gently. Afterwards, do we need to have a points license in Formula 1 ? We are among the best pilots in the world…

Yes, sometimes we make mistakes. At Spa in 2012, I made a mistake, Nico Hulkenberg at Spa this season made a mistake. It's normal to be penalized but from there to having a license... If you don't slow down sufficiently under a red flag, penalty; you go too fast in the pit lane, penalty. There are too many penalties overall and too many rules because everything has to fit into a category ».

Grosjean is not the only one to question the points license. Max Verstappen, another great friend of the race management, bluntly states that it should be “ cum in the trash ". It has the merit of being clear!
