Mike conway, seventeenth in the ranking of theIndycar Series after a difficult season with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, still can't believe having been chosen by Mercedes GP (ex-Brawn GP) to try the car of Brackley during the Jerez tests, from Tuesday to Thursday. The champion of F3 British in 2006 was already, in 2008, a test driver for Honda Racing F1 Team, which became Brawn GP and now Mercedes GP. But since then, the Kent-born driver had hardly shone and was busy securing his future in another discipline.
« I was working on my projects in the IndyCar Series, to stay in the discipline next season but this news changed the situation, recognizes Conway. I will continue to work on my project but we will have to see how the tests (F1) go and we will decide from that moment. »
In Jerez, Mike Conway will have to share the wheel of the Brackley car with Marcus Ericsson, Japanese F3 champion who also took part in four British F3 races this season. The Briton, who should ride on the morning of the three days of testing, admits that he did not expect to reach Jerez.
« I was surprised to learn that the team was offering me a test in a world champion car », continues the Briton. “ It's every driver's dream to drive a car that can win races. It's great that the team thought of me after the work I've done for them in the past. »
