Mercedes fears Brexit will benefit Ferrari

Three years after a popular referendum on leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom must officially leave the EU on March 29, 2019, without us really knowing the terms of departure over which men and women are struggling. British politicians for months.

On the 10 stables on the plateau F1 2019, seven are based totally or partly in Great Britain, including Mercedes which employs some 1000 people in its factories in Brackley and Brixworth

Asked about the question during winter testing in Barcelona, Toto wolff has expressed its fears as the deadline draws closer.

« Yes, Brexit worries us and it must worry everyone who lives in the United Kingdom and often travels outside its borders, replied the Mercedes boss. As a Formula 1 team, we leave the country to attend tests or Grand Prix at least 21 times during the season.

We are constantly sending and receiving parts overseas and our employees regularly travel outside of Britain. If we encounter problems at the borders or have to pay additional taxes at customs, the impact on the Formula 1 industry will be negative.

We are an international team that brings together 26 nationalities, and most of us are from the European Union. At the moment there is great uncertainty over the effect of a no-deal Brexit, but it has the potential to weaken one of the UK's leading industries. We have already said it; it's a monster mess ».

Wolff also believes that the three stables located outside Great Britain, namely Ferrari, Alfa Romeo Racing, and Toro Rosso, could have a “ undeniable advantage over UK-based teams ". Fervent support of Brexit, Christian Horner, boss of Red Bull Racing, necessarily speaks a little differently.

« Do you understand what Brexit is? he pretended to wonder in the Catalan paddock. You can describe whatever disaster scenario you want and say to yourself, “How will this affect my daily life?” » I'm not sure anyone here can answer this question.

As a team and a company, we did our job and we prepared. Afterwards, whether there is an agreement or not… we will deal with it. Life will go on ».

This is undoubtedly the famous British phlegm...
