It's another complicated weekend for Mercedes. At Imola, the Silver Arrows were eliminated for the first time since the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix in Q2. This caused a confrontation between Lewis Hamilton et Toto wolff in the box of the German stable. “Lewis and I expressed our frustration about the exploitable performance on one lap, explained the Austrian boss about this discussion. We share the same point of view and there is no division or reproach between us. There is a lot of pressure and no one in the team is happy with the current situation. »

A current situation which leaves the two drivers from the Backley firm battling in the middle of the pack. Neither George Russell nor Lewis Hamilton were able to get back into the peloton during this Saturday's sprint race. The German manufacturer has never been so far from the mark since the start of its domination of the Formula 1. “It is obvious that we are not in a position to fight for the top positions, continues Toto Wolff. It would be unrealistic to say that we are fighting for the championship. It's just the fact of where we are on the grid at the moment. »

However, a glimmer of hope persists in the reigning eight-time world champion team. “We understand our problems,” assures the Austrian. We have a path to unlocking the car's potential to get much closer to the lead, but, as of yet, we don't have the key to achieving it. » In addition to its porpoising problems, Mercedes also has to deal with a power unit in decline this season. Can the team rectify the situation in the upcoming rounds?
