Toto Wolff has watered down his wine, at least in his statements, compared to last week.

Mercedes on track to ratify the Concorde Agreement

Just 7 days ago, he said at Silverstone, a bit annoyed, that Mercedes was not ready to sign the Concorde Agreements which should govern the Formula 1 beyond the 2020 season.

Liberty Media was inflexible in return and insisted that the deadline of Wednesday August 12 would not move, the majority of teams declaring themselves willing to ratify these texts supposed to define the contours of Formula 1 of the future.

Toto wolff had been moved by the situation and had castigated what he considered to be a double discourse among his counterparts: harsh with the holder of commercial rights in private, honeyed in public, united and united behind the scenes, but defending their territory in front of the microphones.

Finally, common ground seems to have been found between the six-time world champion team and Liberty Medi. Toto Wolff in any case appeared much more conciliatory this Friday in Barcelona. Or resigned, it depends.

« It tired me to see that the teams were not capable of displaying a united front, declared the Austrian manager in Catalonia. I have nothing against the FOM but we participate in these meetings where everyone asks for the same clarifications and then we leave the room and everyone shares opinions different from those expressed in private. We have reached a point where we are unable to agree for the good of the sport. Well, we will chart our own course.

I don't believe that the teams will ever evolve on the same wavelength. Everyone tries to do their own thing apart. There is a culture of blame in the media so we made the decision to move forward on our own with Liberty. I had very constructive discussions with Chase Carey (CEO of Formula One Group, Editor’s note) and most of the points we wanted to address have been raised. I feel we are well placed to sign the Concorde Agreement and move on ».

First victory, the initial deadline of August 12 was pushed back to Tuesday August 18.
