Mercedes and Williams defend wind tunnels

A ban on wind tunnels F1 does not seem to be to the taste of certain team managers. This is what emerged from the questions asked yesterday at a press conference in Singapore, where the subject came back to the table at a time when avenues for reducing costs in the discipline were being studied.

“Personally, I think we should not ban this, not because we have a wind tunnel that works very well. I don't think this is the right method. Everything we banned in the past has always come back and been more expensive. So I think we have to find a balance between the different tools available. » believes Monisha Kaltenborn, Sauber Team Principal.

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal of Williams F1 Team and Toto wolff, Director of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport also advances the safety aspect provided by this tool, in addition to the heavy investments made.

“We have two tunnels at Grove and we place considerable importance on them as a tool for the development of our race cars, to check the parts we develop at the factory before we put them on the track. We believe there is an element of security in this and we will not vote to ban wind tunnels in Formula One. We are very clear on this point. »
specifies Claire Williams.
