Mercedes F1 remains worried about the Monaco GP

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were hopeful of achieving a good result starting from the first row of the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix. But excessive degradation of the Pirelli tires forced the drivers Mercedes to slow down to limit themselves to four stops. The W04s have performances on a flying lap which should allow them to aim for the first places at the start of the Monaco GP, but the German team fears suffering the same problem in the streets of the Principality even if the track is not very abrasive for the erasers. “We have a good car in qualifying at the moment, which will help us in Monaco where qualifying will be the most important of the season,” comments Nico Rosberg, who took second place last year in Monte Carlo. “It could help us, but there are so many unknowns, especially with the tires, that we will just have to wait and see. »

Toto wolff, the new executive director of Mercedes AMG F1, bangs his fist on the table and does not want to wait for Pirelli to make these changes to see his team resolve the important problem of excessive degradation of the tires on the Silver Arrows. “It is clear to everyone on the team that we have a car competitive, the potential of which we cannot draw on Sunday afternoon. Even though overtaking is difficult in Monaco, we cannot be satisfied with the tire degradation. We will have to do much better than what we achieved in Barcelona to hope for a good result. We have only scored points with one car in the last three races. This is something where we must quickly progress, starting next weekend in Monte-Carlo. »
