Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull in 0”134 in EL1 in Mexico

Lewis Hamilton ideally kicks off his weekend in Mexico City by stopping the clock at 1'17''327, synonymous with the first benchmark in the suburbs of the sprawling Mexican capital.

The pilot Mercedes, who can win a 6th world crown this Sunday, precedes the Ferrari de Charles Leclerc of 0”119. Important clarification: the Monegasque completed his best lap on medium yellow tires, while Hamilton was riding on soft red tires when he set his time.

Max Verstappen follows closely with the 3rd mark of the morning. Double title holder in Mexico, the pilot Red Bull is 0”134 behind the Pointe Silver Arrow and ahead of his teammate Alexander albon by almost half a second. First discreet session for Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari). The two men had to settle for 5th and 6th times, a good distance from Hamilton's time.

The honorary place of best of the others once again goes to Carlos Sainz at the wheel of his McLaren. The Spaniard takes both in his wake Toro Rosso de Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat, Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) completing the Top 10 on Friday morning.

Now without their controversial brake distribution system, the Renault only appear in the second half of the board with the 11th beat of Nico Hulkenberg and the 15th of Daniel Ricciardo. Hero of an entire people, Sergio Pérez is only 17th aboard his Racing Point, one place behind his teammate Lance stroll, who caused an interruption of the session by hitting the safety barriers in the last corner which controls the start/finish straight.

Romain Grosjean expected to suffer this weekend with his Haas VF-19. The first impressions confirm this feeling, the Frenchman being pushed back to 18th place, ahead of the Williams of George Russell and the reservist Nicholas latifi, who replaced Grove's other starter Robert Kubica this morning.
