The Grands Prix pass, and Mercedes still can't take off. Despite winter hopes of finally finding “a racing car”, the Star is far from the mark. The numbers demonstrate this perfectly with two 5se places as best result so far thanks to George Russell (Bahrain and Monaco), while Lewis Hamilton never did better than 6e on Sunday.

Proof that the W15 is not yet at the level of the Ferrari, McLaren and even less Red Bull. Obviously, the Brackley factory has been running at full speed in recent weeks to produce developments so that Mercedes can get back on track as quickly as possible. Recently, a new front wing appeared, but only on George Russell's car on the streets of Monaco.

If the Principality is not the preferred place for teams to judge the good – or bad – functioning of a new part, Mercedes came away satisfied with the first data readings. “ We had an encouraging weekend in Monaco, recognize Toto wolff. We continued to make big progress with our car, improving its overall balance and getting a little closer to those ahead of us. This progress is not yet reflected in terms of positions, but if we can continue to close the gap to the fastest cars, we know it will happen in due time."

Hamilton equipped in turn with all the improvements

A good omen for the Canadian Grand Prix. And on Canadian soil, Mercedes will be able to get a better idea of the proper functioning of the developments since Lewis Hamilton will be on the same wavelength as George Russell. Indeed, the seven-time world champion will have the same elements as his teammate.

“In Canada,Both drivers will get the updated front wing, as well as other elements of (the phase of) for sustainable, continues the main team. It allowed a small saving in lap time in the narrow streets of the Principality and should offer more advantages on future circuits. » Enough to hang up the McLaren-Ferrari-Red Bull wagon? Only the track will provide them with an element of answer…
