Mercedes: Tire problems resolved?

With only one point scored in two Grands Prix, the results are meager for Mercedes AMG F1 which nevertheless benefits from a Silver Arrow for first-rate performances. Its main weakness is excessive wear of the rear tires which ruins the efforts of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. The break between Malaysia and China was beneficial for all the teams to improve the cars. Ross Brawn hopes that the work accomplished during these two weeks of break will bear fruit this weekend in Shanghai.

“Our goal is to achieve the best car possible for the race and his performance in qualifying is only a consequence of that”, assures the Team Principal. “The rules in force do not encourage you to concentrate your efforts on qualifying with DRS and the number of stops. Tire management is essential to success and this management depends on several factors such as the set-up, the downforce of the car or the driver's handling. Depending on the set-up variations that we select, we will be able to find the solution. But it's a learning process and we missed the mark in the first two races. Our analysis from Malaysia has given us a better understanding and we have prepared options to improve rubber management. »
