Mercedes: Räikkönen doesn't see himself there

Kimi Räikkönen is definitely THE driver whose future in Formula 1 raises the most speculation. After the failure of his negotiations with McLaren and the signing of Jenson Button within the Woking team, the Finn thought he no longer had a track. Indeed, he had declared that McLaren was his only option. But, this Thursday, his agent, Steve Robertson, confided that a proposal for Mercedes GP could be studied.

In the process, Kimi Räikkönen commented on this information on the official F1 website. For the Finn, a transfer to the Brackley team seems unimaginable. “ I did not speak with Ross Brawn (Mercedes GP boss). I have a feeling they will run two German drivers next year now that Mercedes is involved. »

Despite everything, the 2007 world champion wanted to reaffirm that he had not lost an ounce of motivation. “ I achieved my goal by becoming world champion. I want to win another championship but I can only do that by having a competitive car »

« McLaren offered me the best opportunity to win races and fight for the championship, continues Iceman. But I didn't agree with them so I decided to take a sabbatical. And I will only come back in 2011 if I am offered a competitive steering wheel. »

Concerning his future projects, outside of F1, the Finn has not made a final decision, the failure of negotiations with McLaren being still too recent. “ I do not know yet. I take a look at the Rally. But, again, I want to drive a competitive car. » The Finn would indeed study the proposal to join the WRC and Citroën, with the support of Red Bull. “If not, I will spend more time with my friends and family. » That would be a shame for a driver who has proven more than once that he is one of the very best on the Formula 1 grid.
