Mercedes drops call for Rosberg

Penalized of 10″ on his race time for prohibited radio communications, after a gearbox problem at the end of the Grand Prix yesterday afternoon at Silverstone, Nico Rosberg lost his second place to the driver Red Bull Racing Max Verstappen.

The team Mercedes had hinted that she could appeal the decision, therefore leaving the final results of the British event pending. However, this Monday, the training of Toto wolff and Paddy Lowe confirmed that she would not go through with the procedure.

“We were able to prove to the stewards that a gearbox failure that could result in the car being immobilized was imminent, and thus, within the framework of the rules, communicate with Nico Rosberg to change the set-up mode.

However, the indication to avoid using the seventh gear was considered to contravene technical directive 016-16 and therefore Article 27.1 of the sporting regulations. The team therefore accepts the interpretation of the rule made by the commissioners and accepts the penalty. »

Rosberg therefore loses his second place and sees a return Lewis Hamilton one point in the World Championship Drivers' standings. Mercedes has also indicated that it wants to meet soon with those responsible for the F1, concerning the over-regulation of the discipline.
