Mercedes satisfied with 6th place

However, the start was favorable for the seven-time world champion. Starting only 13th on the grid, the German, wearing hard tires that performed much better than the soft ones, managed to gain five places to be eighth at the end of the first lap. But a puncture in his right front tire forced him to return to the pits, thus ruining his race and the good start he had made. The Kaiser finished his race at the points gate, just behind the two Force Indias.

« However, everything went very well at the start. But I had a puncture after my first stop which ruined my race », commented the pilot Mercedes. " I then got stuck in traffic, and there was nothing more to do. I did what I could to maintain my position but my tires were deteriorating really too quickly. ». Michael Schumacher could do no better than 11th, finishing five places behind his teammate Nico Rosberg.

The other German driver, who started 10th on the grid, had a less turbulent race. Having, however, made a less good start than his compatriot, notably because of the soft rubber with which he was equipped, the Mercedes driver returned to the pits on the 5th lap to change his tires. But he then had a solid race to grab a sixth place, gaining him two positions in the Championship.

« 6th place was the best we could hope for today, so I'm quite satisfied » commented Rosberg. “ It was a difficult weekend, although I had lost a lot of places at the start. But then I managed to overtake a few times and was able to attack to improve my position ", he added. " We had a good strategy but it was very difficult to preserve the tires ».

Nico Rosberg is now in 6th place in the Championship ahead of Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa. The German now has 40 points more on his teammate Michael Schumacher, who declared before the Montreal Grand Prix that he was no longer aiming for the title this season, preferring to concentrate on 2011.
