Mercedes will test elements to prepare for 2018

Mercedes will take advantage of the last two Grands Prix with Brazil and Abu Dhabi to test new elements in order to prepare for the 2018 season. The star-studded team having won the Drivers' and Manufacturers' titles for the fourth consecutive year, it will allow itself to take risks in this end of the season in order to save time in the development of the W09 which will be entered in 2018.

“The last two Grands Prix give us two testing sessions ahead of the new season, which will allow us to test new and innovative concepts that we were unable to test earlier in the year. This could cost us time on track during free practice, or even a race retirement, if everything does not work as planned., indicates the Mercedes press release.

“With both titles assured for Brackley, the team can be more daring. Mercedes-AMG Motorsport reserves the possibility of using these new concepts for racing if the team believes that the risk is measured and that the learning for 2018 and beyond will be significant. »

“The team will work in particular with measuring instruments on aerodynamic appendages, for example with the rakes often seen in testing. These devices are often a little punishing with the additional weight and the time spent to make them operational. Equipment used during pit stops will also be tested. Even though they have already undergone a battery of tests, we will use them in the heat of the moment. It's better to try these new things now rather than in Melbourne (Australia) next year. »
